Information about the prototype

The revolutionary Messerschmitt Me 262 was the first jet aircraft to be operationally deployed. In April 1944, the Luftwaffe received sixteen pre-production versions of the Me262 A-0. The development of the pure fighter version of this aircraft was delayed, as Hitler favored the production of the bomber version A-2a.

In November 1944, production of the fighter Me 262 A-1 finally began. In addition to the standard armament of four 30mm cannons, later aircraft were equipped with underwing mounts for air-to-air rockets of the R4M type. This new weapon made the Me 262 a feared opponent.
