The Republic P-47D Thunderbolt was the heaviest, largest, and most expensive single-engine fighter of World War II, powered by a brutal Pratt & Whitney 18-cylinder engine. Its massive construction and armor made it extremely resistant to enemy fire and was able to return to base safely even with heavy damage. Armed with eight 12.7 mm machine guns, the Thunderbolt was a terror to the German Luftwaffe and an excellent fighter.

This model faithfully reproduces the aircraft with serial number 42-8500 and codename HO-P, which belonged to the famous 487th Fighter Wing of the 352nd Fighter Group of the USAAF. The aircraft bears the characteristic olive camouflage, white identification stripes and the iconic inscription "Cripes A' MIGHTY" on the nose. It was with this monster that Captain George E. Preddy Jr. began his stellar combat career over occupied Europe, and all his subsequent aircraft bore this specific nickname.
