Template information
Supermarine Spitfire LF.Mk.IXE TE565 is a unique, historically significant aircraft currently on display at the National Technical Museum in Prague. The aircraft is considered to be one of the most original Spitfires in existence today. It was built at Castle Bromwich with the construction number CBAF.11397 and delivered to 310th (Czech) Squadron before being transferred to the Czech Air Force as 'A-712'. The aircraft was handed over to the National Technical Museum in Prague in 1950.
No. 310 Squadron RAF was a Czechoslovak manned fighter squadron within the RAF, formed at RAF Duxford in July 1940 and was the first RAF squadron to be manned by foreign pilots – in this case, Czech fugitives. During the Battle of Britain it was initially equipped with Hawker Hurricanes, scoring a total of 37 and a half victories, until these were replaced by Spitfires in 1941. Between 1941 and 1945 the squadron was based at several bases across the United Kingdom, depending on the sortie, but in February 1945 it moved to RAF Manston in Kent. By the end of the conflict the squadron had scored 57 and a half victories, including four V-1 bombers.
Our faithful 1:72 scale replica of this iconic Spitfire dates from its final days of World War II, when it was stationed at RAF Manston. The aircraft is dressed in the traditional dark grey and camouflage scheme with a dark grey underside, the tail strip and propeller cone are camouflaged in teal. Bright yellow is applied to the black propeller tips and also to the leading edge of the wings, inside which the machine gun patches are highlighted in bright red. The lower parts of the guns are painted matt black. The rusty brown exhaust pipes and matt black tyres with silver hubs are other small but authentic details of this model. Its identification number TE565 on the rear of the fuselage is printed in black on a light green background, while the code NN-N is rendered in bold white on both sides of the fuselage with the RAF roundel in the centre.
You can see the real aircraft at the Technical Museum in Prague, Czech Republic – an unforgettable experience for any Spitfire enthusiast.
