History:
When Britain desperately needed heroes to unite the nation, RAF pilot John Randall Daniel "Bob" Braham answered the call with extraordinary courage and skill. Braham, an experienced pilot of twin-engine fighters, was a pioneer of bold tactical innovation and flew "on the loose" alongside primary RAF bombing formations over enemy territory. His strategy was brilliantly simple yet devastating: to lure enemy night fighters away from vulnerable bombers and destroy them before they could attack. In this role, he is credited with shooting down at least four leading Luftwaffe night fighter aces and became a scourge of German defensive operations.
Braham, the most decorated British fighter pilot, ended the war as the most successful British pilot of twin-engine aircraft. He achieved a total of 30 aerial victories, 19 of which were achieved under the cover of darkness, establishing him as a leading night fighter ace. Nine of his victories came while flying the de Havilland Mosquito on intruder missions, and his actions undoubtedly saved hundreds of Bomber Command airmen from Luftwaffe night fighters. This model represents the Mosquito that he borrowed from the 613th Squadron RAF on March 5, 1944. With this aircraft, he notched his first Mosquito kill and continued his legendary campaign against German night hunters.
