Takeoff and landing are the two moments when most flights go wrong. Automatic takeoff lifts the drone to a meter high and lets it hang, automatic landing smoothly puts it back down.

For a beginner, this means that they don't have to hit the gas and can concentrate on the flight itself. In more equipped machines, the landing is calculated based on GPS and altitude sensors , so the touchdown is soft and flat.

The Syma and Xiaomi FIMI camera drones have this feature. It is always best to land on a flat and clean surface — tall grass is not good for propellers.
