Template information
At the end of 1943, it was decided in Germany to develop a new tank destroyer to replace the outdated Marder I. The new assault gun was based on the chassis of the Pz.Kpfw.38(t) tank, which was being produced in the Protectorate. In essence, it was a partially adopted, originally Czechoslovak tank design. In March 1944, the first three prototypes were delivered to the German army, and the machines were given the designation Jagdpanzer 38. The name Hetzer, which the German soldiers called the tank, was unofficial. On April 20, 1944, Adolf Hitler himself inspected the new armored vehicle, and it was decided to start its serial production. This was to take place at the BMM (former ČKD) plants in Prague and Škoda Plzeň.
