Template information

The Kfz.1 light off-road vehicle was a military modification of the civilian Mercedes-Benz 170V, which was adapted to the demanding conditions of field service. The 170VK (Vorn-Kühler) version was characterized by a robust open body with four doors and a canvas roof, which provided protection for the crew from inclement weather. Due to its reliability and easy maintenance, this type was widely used as a command vehicle, a means of communication or a light transporter by all branches of the German army on all fronts of World War II.

The vehicle was powered by a 1.7-liter inline four-cylinder engine, which provided it with sufficient mobility even on the unpaved roads of the Eastern Front or in the desert conditions of North Africa. Despite the absence of four-wheel drive, the Type 170VK proved to be an exceptionally durable machine that could operate even in extreme climatic situations. In total, over 19,000 of these vehicles were produced, with many of them remaining in active service after 1945 and becoming an important symbol of the motorization of European roads in the interwar and war periods.
