Template information

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9 was the pinnacle of the Fw 190 series, powered by the Junkers Jumo 213A inline twelve-cylinder piston engine. The Mimetall-built aircraft featured specific details in the fuselage construction and the use of standardized late-war camouflage schemes. With its extended fuselage and excellent high-altitude performance, this variant of the Dora was a highly effective tool in the fight against the Allies.

At the end of the war, these machines appeared in the armament of the JG 301 squadron, which performed the demanding tasks of protecting German airspace from bomber raids. The aircraft of this unit were characterized by distinctive yellow-red stripes on the tail, which served to quickly identify their own forces in dense traffic over the battlefield. Despite a critical shortage of fuel and overwhelming enemy superiority, the pilots of JG 301 managed to achieve victory on their Fw 190D-9 machines.
