The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 (NATO reporting name "Fishbed") is a Soviet supersonic multirole fighter aircraft used from the early 1960s to the present. It has been used by the air forces of more than 30 countries, and is still in service in several of them. Over 10,000 were produced, making it the most and longest-produced supersonic aircraft. It has participated in many armed conflicts, including the Arab-Israeli Wars and the Vietnam War.
Serial production began in 1959, but the development of the aircraft did not end with its introduction into production. MiG-21 aircraft were included in the armament of the armies of more than fifty countries, in the years 1961–2005 they were also in the armament of the Czechoslovak People's Army and then the Army of the Czech Republic. They were produced under license during the years 1963–1972 by the Aero Vodochody company.
