Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 is a jet fighter developed in the Soviet Union in a design office led by designers Artem Mikoyan and Mikhail Gurevich. The MiG-15 was one of the first successful jet aircraft with swept wings. It demonstrated its qualities particularly in air battles over Korea, where it was only matched by the North American F-86 Sabre. A more powerful variant was the MiG-17, which gradually replaced it. The MiG-15 was one of the most widely produced jet aircraft in the world. Over 12,000 of these aircraft were manufactured in the USSR, and licensed production in other countries (including the Czech Aero Vodochody where it was produced from 1954) increased the number to about 18,000 units.
