The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is one of the most famous fighter aircraft of the German Luftwaffe used in World War II. Over 33,000 of them were produced in many different versions. The strengths of this aircraft were its climb rate and speed in a dive. In the summer of 1942, production of the Bf 109 G series began, which underwent noticeable changes compared to the previous version, the Bf109F. The G-5/G-6 was equipped with a MK 151/20 mm cannon with a muzzle directly in the center of the propeller. Two MG 131 machine guns were located above the engine.
Due to the improved armament, the engine cowling had to be aerodynamically modified, giving the aircraft its characteristic "bulge". The G-6 was widely used on all fronts from March 1943 until the end of the war. Later production series of the Bf 109 G-6 added fixed one-piece windows to the rear of the cabin, which significantly improved rearward visibility. During further modifications, the tail rudder was also changed, being higher and having a larger area than in previous versions. With 13,000 machines, the G-6 was the most produced type of Bf 109.
