The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was an American four-engine heavy bomber that was created in the 1930s at the request of the US Army Air Corps (USAAC). Boeing succeeded in the advertised competition for the production of two hundred bombers, as its machine's performance significantly exceeded that of competitors Douglas and Martin.
