Plastic kit of the Italian World War II battle aircraft Breda Ba-65A-80 "Nibbio".
Template information
The Breda Ba-65 was a modern Italian all-metal low-wing aircraft, developed in the mid-1930s as a multi-role aircraft for direct support of ground forces. The A-80 version was equipped with a more powerful Fiat A.80 radial engine, which provided the necessary power for carrying a combined armament of machine guns in the wings and bombs in the fuselage bomb bay. The type received its baptism of fire during the Spanish Civil War in the ranks of the Italian Aviazione Legionaria, where it proved to be a robust and effective attack aircraft for destroying ground targets.
Despite its initial success, the aircraft quickly became obsolete with the outbreak of World War II, mainly due to its lower speed and the absence of a rear gunner on the single-seat versions. Nevertheless, these aircraft were deployed in North Africa, where they fought against British forces in difficult desert conditions until their gradual withdrawal from the front line in early 1942. The AZ model kit faithfully captures the characteristic lines of this Italian "hawk", including the detailed radial engine and the cabin glazing typical of the A-80 version.
