Template information
The Supermarine Spitfire was a British single-seat fighter aircraft used by the RAF and other Allied air forces during World War II. It formed the basis of the British fighter force, along with the Hurricane, during the Battle of Britain.
The Supermarine Spitfire Tr.8 was created as a post-war conversion of standard Mk.VIII fighters, in which the original cockpit was moved forward and a second cabin with a raised canopy for the instructor was added.
Although primarily used for training in the Irish and Indian air forces, it retained the legendary agility and high performance of its combat prototype thanks to its Merlin engine. Today, it is the most widely used version of the Spitfire used for commercial adventure flights.
