Panzerkampfwagen IV (SdKfz 161 PzKpfw IV or Pz IV) was a German medium tank developed in 1933 in Germany as a medium tank designed to support the infantry. The first prototypes were created at the turn of 1935/1936, was used throughout the Second World War.
Originally tank Pz IV was designed to support the attacking infantry, while the Pz III was designed to combat enemy armored vehicles. His main weapon was a short 75mm guns (7.5cm KwK 37 L/24), which, however, was not ideal for fighting enemy armored vehicles. Furthermore, it was armed with two machine guns. Such equipment exhibited machines Pz IV A-F1. Deployment of tanks Pz IV on the Eastern Front, where he clashed with heavily armed opancéřovanými and better tanks T-34 and KV-1, showed the urgent need to develop a tank capable of conducting at least somewhat balanced combat these villains. Since the tank Pz III did not allow the installation of appropriately powerful weapons and development of new types would be lengthy, there was only tank Pz IV, which was quickly armed with long 75mm guns (7.5cm KwK 40 L/43 versions F2 and G, 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/48 versions H and J). Production of the first tank of F2 was launched in March 1942. Altogether the end of World War II produced about 9,000 of these tanks, of which a little over 7850 with a long gun. Tanks were used after World War II, Syria is still deployed in the Six-Day War.
