Template information
The Mil Mi-17, also known by its NATO reporting name "Hip", is the export version of the Soviet Mil Mi-8 multi-role twin-engine helicopter. It is one of the most widely used helicopters in the world.
The first prototype of the experimental single-engine V-8 took off on June 9, 1961, and the prototype of the final twin-engine version on September 17, 1962. Serial production began in late 1965 and continues to this day.
Propulsion is provided by 2× 1435 kW TV3-117MT engines. The three-bladed tail rotor, unlike the Mi-8, is located on the left side of the tail spar.
The machine is equipped with navigation and communications equipment that allows operation in all weather conditions, day and night. The helicopter is also equipped with anti-aircraft missile defense systems with passive IR guidance.
