Template information
The Curtiss P-40 Tomahawk was an American single-engine single-seat all-metal fighter and fighter aircraft that first flew in 1938. The P-40 design was based on the predecessor Curtiss P-36 Hawk. The time saved for development allowed for a quick entry into production and into service.
The Tomahawk was used by most Allied forces during World War II and remained in the front line until the end of the war. It was the third most produced American fighter after the P-51 and P-47 types.
By November 1944, when P-40 production was stopped, 13,738 units were produced. Great Britain operated these machines under the name Tomahawk IIb, mainly on the less exposed battlefield in North Africa.
