Precisely crafted plastic kit of the Japanese racing special Toyota Celica LB Turbo Gr.5
Template information
The Celica LB Turbo was a Group 5 racing car developed in 1977 for the Deutsche Rennsport-Meisterschaft (DRM) championship. It was based on the production Celica Liftback 2000GT and featured aerodynamic features such as flared wings and a rear spoiler. The entire body was redesigned using lightweight composite materials (FRP), with the exception of the bonnet, roof, doors and rear panels; the car weighed just 860 kg. The 1,968 cc inline-four engine from Toyota (type 18R-G) was modified by the German company Schnitzer. They fitted the engine with their own sixteen-valve cylinder head, increasing the displacement to 2,090 cc; the power unit was further equipped with mechanical fuel injection and a KKK turbocharger, which ensured an impressive 560 hp.
The car made its debut in 1977 at the eighth round of the DRM series at Hockenheim. In October of that year, it even beat the feared Porsche 935 in the ADAC Trophy race at the Belgian Zolder circuit. This distinctive Japanese-German racing special was definitely one to watch.
