Plastic kit of the Soviet World War II fighter aircraft Lavochkin La-5.
Model specifications
The history of the La-5 aircraft begins even before the start of the war with the LaGG-1 and LaGG-3 designs. The LaGG-3 aircraft was experimentally equipped with the AŠ-82 radial engine in 1942. The prototype's flight tests yielded satisfactory results. Army test pilots rated the new La-5 as more powerful than its main competitor, the Yak-7.
In July 1942, mass production was ordered and all existing LaGG-3 airframes were ordered to be refitted to the new standard. Although the La-5 was inferior to the best German fighters at higher altitudes, it was an equal opponent at medium altitudes and on the ground.
Most air combat on the Eastern Front took place at altitudes below 5,000 meters, and the Soviet Air Force gained a very powerful weapon in the La-5. The aircraft was further improved, receiving a fuel-injected engine, being lightened and equipped with fixed slots. The improved aircraft was designated La-5FN.
