The LMV (Veicolo Tattico Leggero Multiruolo) Lince light tactical multi-purpose vehicle was developed by the Italian company Iveco Defence Vehicles in response to the need for high protection of the crew against mines and improvised explosive devices. The key element of the design is the armored driver and crew cell, which is mechanically separated from the chassis. This innovative architecture effectively absorbs the energy of the explosion, making the vehicle one of the safest light armored vehicles in its category in the world.
The Lince vehicle has found wide application not only in the Italian army, but has also been massively deployed in Afghanistan within the ISAF missions. Thanks to its permanent four-wheel drive, independent axle suspension and powerful turbodiesel engine, the vehicle has excellent cross-country ability in extremely difficult terrain and on unpaved surfaces. The machine can be equipped with various weapon systems, from light machine guns on a rotating turret to modern, remotely controlled stations.
