Historical information
The Battle of Austerlitz represents Napoleon’s greatest achievement and is considered a masterpiece of military strategy. One of the most famous battles in history, it took place on 2 December 1805 near the town of Austerlitz and is also known as the “Battle of the Three Emperors” because it pitted Napoleon’s Grand Army against the allied forces of Tsar Alexander I of Russia and Emperor Francis II of Austria. Following Napoleon’s strategic victory at Ulm, the Battle of Austerlitz marked a decisive moment in the conflicts of the War of the Third Coalition. The battle has gained legendary status due to the masterful execution of the Grand Army’s battle plan at the height of its effectiveness. Key moments included the defense of the villages of Tellnitz and Sokolnitz – where intense fighting took place around the granary and castle – and the attack on the Pratecké výšiny.
