The six-wheeled Tyrell P34 made its debut in the F1 World Championship in 1976. The car achieved very good results throughout the season. In the following season, the Tyrell team acquired a new main sponsor – First National City Bank, which led to changes in the car's color scheme. The Tyrell P34 began to race in an attractive white and blue color scheme. During this period, a new full-surface engine cover was also installed. The aim was to improve the aerodynamic properties of the car. The drivers behind the wheel of the car were P. Depailler and R. Peterson.

The promising concept of the car unfortunately suffered from difficulties in developing the dimensionally unique front tires. The ongoing battle between tire giants Michelin and Goodyear was to blame. However, the Tyrell team continued its efforts. With the help of minor improvements, the P34 was able to get not only to the podium, but also to the highest podium, which was 1st place in the Swedish Grand Prix.
