Mil Mi-2 (Russian Миль Ми-2, also known as a PZL Mil Mi-2, NATO reporting name Hoplite, hoplite) is a multi-purpose twin-engine light utility helicopter with a three-blade main rotor and two-blade tail rotor thrust. The prototype helicopter Mi-2 was developed in the Soviet Union since the early 60th 20th century. It is the successor of another Soviet helicopter - machinery Mil Mi-1. Compared to the previous machine helicopters Mi-2 equipped with two turboshaft engines that have a significantly higher performance than the original piston engines. New engines have significantly contributed to the fact that the helicopter can transport up to eight passengers and a pilot, while the previous model was able to carry two passengers and a pilot. Prototype Mi-2, referred to as V-2, first flew 22nd září, 1961. In production, the helicopters came in 1966. By 1998, when production was discontinued, it produced a total of 5497 units, and helicopters Mi-2 thus belongs to one of the most successful helicopters. It is also the only Russian helicopter, which was produced exclusively in Poland, ie outside the Soviet Union. Over the years, helicopters have become part of many airlines and companies, as well as military and police squadrons. Have become especially popular in the countries of the Warsaw Pact, but flew in many other countries. The Mi-2 helicopter came too modern machine PZL Kania, which did not succeed and were manufactured just a few pieces.
