The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 (NATO reporting name "Fishbed") is a Soviet supersonic multirole fighter aircraft of the early 1960s. The MiG-21 has been used by the air forces of more than 30 countries around the world, some of which are still in service.
The MiG-21 became the most and longest-produced supersonic aircraft – more than 10,000 were built in total. The type participated in many armed conflicts, including the Arab-Israeli wars and the Vietnam War.
Serial production began in 1959, but the aircraft's development was far from over with its introduction into production. From 1961 to 2005, MiG-21s were in service with the Czechoslovak People's Army and then the Army of the Czech Republic.
