Information about the prototype

The Fokker E.III was the primary German fighter aircraft during World War I. Conceptually, it was a single-engine monoplane developed by chief designer Martin Kreuzer based on the Fokker E.I type, which was improved by installing a more powerful Oberursel U.I rotary nine-cylinder engine with a power output of 74 kW.

Most Fokker E.IIIs were armed with a synchronized Spandau IMG 08 machine gun with a supply of 500 rounds of ammunition. The first three examples of the Fokker E.III entered service on the Western Front in August 1915. Among those who flew this type were Lieutenant Max Immelmann, ace Ernst Udet, Count von Holek, and Captain von Gersdorff. A total of 294 units of this type were produced, 49 of which were conversions from Fokker E.IIs.
