Send a questionPlastic kit of the German World War II seaplane Arado Ar 196 A-3.
Template information
During World War II, the Arado Ar 196 was the main seaplane in service with the German Kriegsmarine. The crew of this single-engine monoplane consisted of a pilot and an observer-gunner. The cabin had a tandem layout, meaning that the second crew member sat behind the pilot. The Arado Ar 196 was a modern machine for its time. The BMW 132 radial 9-cylinder engine produced 960 horsepower.
The airframe was, for obvious reasons, optimized for use on German battleships or cruisers. The Ar 196 could be launched directly from the deck, using a catapult. The folding wings of the machine then allowed for more efficient storage. The German cruisers Scharnhost and Gneisenau had 3 aircraft on board, while the more famous Bismarck had 4. The Ar 196 was used primarily for reconnaissance and monitoring flights.
