The Gloster Meteor was the first jet fighter in Great Britain and the only one of its type to see action in Allied hands during World War II. The F.8 variant was probably the best known version of this aircraft, later replaced by the Hawker Hunter.
As the first jet aircraft used by the Royal Air Force, the Gloster Meteor will always have a special historical significance. It was a highly maneuverable and reliable aircraft. However, it was soon surpassed, especially in its ability to conduct effective maneuverable air combat. However, the aircraft became a suitable platform for other tasks.
The Royal Australian Air Force used Meteors in the Korean War, where they were significantly inferior to the Soviet MiG-15. Based on this finding, Meteors were used only for attacks on ground targets, where they proved very effective.
