The Traxxas VXL-3s V2 (generation V2) brushless speed controller features an architecture optimized for modern, powerful 4-pole brushless motors. The main technological improvement over the previous version is the implementation of a powerful BEC power supply.
This advanced power supply ensures stable power supply even for high-current digital servos and receivers, which radically reduces the overall thermal stress of the controller. Thanks to the use of state-of-the-art power MOS-FET transistors, the system achieves minimal internal resistance, high current carrying capacity and absolute reliability under extreme loads.
Intuitive programming and driving modes
The controller retains the user-friendly and uniform programming with a single EZ-Start button, which is identical to other Traxxas controllers. Setting the throttle and neutral end positions (calibration) is a matter of seconds. The system has three built-in driving modes (profiles):
- Sport Mode: Offers full 100% forward power, precise braking and full power for reverse.
- Race Mode: Provides full 100% forward power and instant braking. Reverse is completely locked, which is strictly required by official model racing rules.
- Training Mode (Beginner): Limits maximum forward and reverse power to a safe 50% while maintaining 100% brake power. This profile is perfect for children, novice riders, or those just getting started with a powerful model, reaching exactly half the maximum speed.
Advanced safety protections protecting electronics
The electronic circuits of the controller are completely encapsulated in a special hydrophobic compound, which guarantees excellent water resistance for carefree operation in wet environments, snow or mud. A massive black finned heat sink ensures effective passive cooling of the transistors.
The system is equipped with integrated two-stage thermal protection (in the first phase, the power is limited, and in the event of critical heating, the motor is safely disconnected) and intelligent two-stage protection against deep underdischarge of LiPo batteries.
If the voltage per cell drops to approximately 3.3 V, the controller will cut the power in half. When the critical limit of 3.0 V per cell is reached, the electronics will immediately disconnect the motor, preventing irreversible destruction of the expensive lithium battery.
