The Estes Wizard is a very popular, fast and reliable rocket that, after firing the rocket motor, will achieve a stabilized flight and can climb to a respectable height of up to 480 meters. After reaching the peak of the flight, the reentry system is activated and the rocket descends safely back to the ground.
Design complexity and model construction
The kit falls into the construction difficulty level 2 (Skill Level 2), which means that basic model making experience is required for construction. Building one rocket takes approximately one day.
The main stabilizers (winglets) are precisely laser-cut from high-quality and lightweight balsa, which ensures excellent aerodynamics and easy gluing to the paper tube of the rocket body. The aerodynamic tip (support cone) is made of durable plastic.
The finished assembled model must be painted and provided with the included decals before the first launch - to achieve the perfect look, we recommend using classic acrylic spray paints.
Detailed analysis of the rocket's flight phases
The model operates in several precisely defined consecutive phases. After remote electrical ignition of the propellant mixture in the engine using an igniter, the rocket leaves the launch pad, where a guide rod ensures a direct and safe flight direction.
This is followed by a thrust phase and rapid acceleration. Once the propellant mixture burns out, the retarding mixture ignites, producing a thick tracer smoke that facilitates visual tracking of the trajectory.
At the very top of the trajectory (at apogee), the propellant charge is ignited, which, using gas pressure, knocks out the plastic tip and sweeps out the return system. In this case, the return is carried out using a reflective ribbon (streamer), which safely slows the rocket and brings it to the ground for reuse.
