The Pilatus PC-21 is a military turboprop trainer and light combat aircraft developed and manufactured by the Swiss company Pilatus Aircraft Ltd. It follows on from the legendary P-3 (piston-engined), PC-7 and PC-9 turboprop-engined trainers; thanks to a more powerful engine, the use of modern materials and the latest aerodynamics, it boasts a maximum speed and climb rate previously only found in jet-powered aircraft. Together with advanced avionics, this allows the PC-21 to serve as a machine for basic and advanced flight training, from which pilots can move straight to supersonic aircraft. And not only that, the unique training system of which the PC-21 is a part also enables the training of navigators, weapons system operators and electronic warfare operators.
The PC-21 is powered by a 1200 kW Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-68B turboprop engine, ensuring economical operation and high reliability. It can carry up to 1350 kg of cargo on five external pylons under the wing and fuselage: additional tanks, containers with machine guns, cannons or unguided rockets, conventional and laser-guided bombs, containers with reconnaissance equipment, etc.
The first prototype of the PC-21 flew in 2002 – production aircraft are now flying around the world, training pilots in its home country of Switzerland, France, Spain, Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries, Indonesia, Australia; deliveries to the Royal Canadian Air Force began in 2026, and tenders are underway for the air forces of Sweden, the United Kingdom, Malaysia and other countries. The PC-21 has truly become the “training aircraft for the 21st century”, as its creators at Pilatus set out to do at the very beginning.
The KAVAN PC-21 model faithfully copies the large model in both appearance and flight performance. The typical shapes of the aircraft are complemented by a number of detailed elements, distinctive LED lights and a fully decorated cockpit. High stability, surprising maneuverability and strong thrust of the engine allow for aerobatics and high-speed fly-bys. The sprung landing gear ensures perfectly model take-offs and landings with an elegant touchdown on the landing pad.
The fuselage of the model is made of highly durable EPO foam (extruded polyolefin) with thorough internal plywood and carbon reinforcements. In the front part of the fuselage is installed brushless electric motor C5055-470KV and KAVAN R-100SB Plus controller with powerful BEC power stabilizer needed to power 8 servos on board. Access to the onboard electronics compartment is provided by a removable cabin, secured with a mechanical latch at the rear.
The cabin is spacious, consisting of two modules with pilots fixed with screws. The cabin glazing is very transparent, the deck is fully decorated and the pilots are painted. In the cabin you will find enough space to install your own pilots or FPV unit without the need for cutting and gluing.
The EPO foam model wing is a two-piece structure with two carbon tube connectors. It is secured in place with two 4-bolt connectors. The ailerons and flaps are controlled independently by two servos with short straight wire rods and there are also functional LED position and landing lights. The flaps are suspended from 4 robust pylons.
The tail surfaces are also made of EPO foam. The rudder and elevator servos are mounted directly in the tail surfaces and the rudders are controlled by short straight wire rods.
The landing gear is retractable, three-wheeled, and all legs are spring-loaded. The steerable nose leg is equipped with high-brightness landing and taxiing lights.
The model is powered by a C5055-470KV brushless motor with a 5-blade 13×10" propeller and a 100 A KAVAN R-100SB Plus controller. The individual propeller blades are individually replaceable.
For power, you will need a six-cell LiPo with a capacity of 4500–6000 mAh and 40 C (but preferably 60 C). Choose the specific type so that the correct center of gravity position works out best for you without further consideration.
To control the model, you can use just a six-channel computer RC kit without special functions - in the basic version, the ailerons, flaps, elevator and rudder are connected to only one channel using a distribution board installed in the cabin. The nose wheel control is coupled with the rudder control. The landing gear extension/retraction control is also connected to one channel. The distribution board also provides power to the LED lights and the connected sequencer is responsible for controlling the retractable landing gear. Of course, the manual includes a thorough table with proven default rudder deflection settings so that you can easily prepare the PC-21 for flight.
ARF set includes: finished fuselage, wing and tail surfaces made of EPO foam with installed brushless motor, controller, 8 servos, electric retractable landing gear and LED lights, propeller parts with carrier, instructions.
